Artist Talk: Body of Care and Control

Välkommen till ett samtal mellan Urban Josefsson, museichef på Medicinhistoriska museet i Uppsala, och konstnärerna Anna-Karin Rasmusson, Izabel Lind Färnstrand, Lode Kuylenstierna och Snežana Vučetić Bohm. Samtalet modereras av curatorerna Elias Kautsky och Yuying Hu.

Köttinspektionen har, som namnet proklamerar, varit en byggnad för kontroll av livsmedel, en plats för statligt omhändertagande med utgångspunkt i frågor om folkhälsa. I förhållande till denna historia undersöker utställningen Body of Care and Control olika sätt att inspektera, dissekera och exponera kroppar. I Body of Care and Control undersöks kroppen med betoning på relationen mellan begreppen omhändertagande och kontroll.

Medicinhistoriska museet speglar läkekonstens utveckling såväl som Uppsala universitetssjukhus trehundraåriga historia. Genom att bjuda in museets chef, Urban Josefsson, till detta samtal vill vi introducera ett lokalhistoriskt perspektiv på de olika typer av kroppsinspektioner som konstverken i utställningen Body of Care and Control relaterar till.

Samtalet följs av en diskussion där publiken välkomnas att ställa frågor direkt till Urban Josefsson och de deltagande konstnärerna.

Welcome to a conversation between Urban Josefsson, director of the Museum of Medical History in Uppsala, and artists Anna-Karin Rasmusson, Izabel Lind Färnstrand, Lode Kuylenstierna and Snežana Vučetić Bohm. The talk will be moderated by curators Elias Kautsky and Yuying Hu.

As the name proclaims, Köttinspektionen has been a building for executing control over public suppliance, a place of governmental care-taking related to issues of health and well-being. In connection to this history, Body of Care and Control is in search for a variety of inspections, dissections and displays of bodies. In this exhibition, the body is being investigated through an emphasis on the ambiguity between the caring for and the controlling of.

The Museum of Medical History shows the development of medicine from its beginnings until today, as well as the 300 year history of Uppsala University Hospital. By inviting the museum director, Urban Josefsson, this talk intends to introduce a local historical perspective on the various kinds of bodily inspections that the artworks presented in Body of Care and Control touch upon.

The talk will be followed by a discussion session where the audience is encouraged to engage in a conversation with the participating artists and the museum director.
